Band: Soul Coughing
I saw Soul Coughing perform this song and others in their supporting tour for their third album, 1998’s El Oso. Ace concert - lots of energy and good vibes despite the muddy sound (big cavernous club on the waterfront). This fairly short-lived band based out of NYC formed in the mid-90s and broke up by 2000. They had this sort of pleasantly charged, flip hybrid of rap/hiphop, funk and rock. With this album it looked like they were about ready to bust out - Circles was one of the tracks leading the charge. Funny, it never really happened; sadly, the history of pop music is littered with promising acts like this. The best of their stuff was energetic, endearingly quirky pop, like Circles - not terribly deep perhaps, but catchy as hell. Official vid for Circles is below.
