Song: Deep Seat
This song is from the Oxford England band’s 1991 debut album Raise. Swervedriver got slapped with the shoegazing moniker and it more or less applies. Deep Seat is a heavy number drenched in the sludge of brooding, effects-laden guitar. The oozing vibe of the song is cool, ambivalent, diffuse, detached; yet nested within that alienated patchwork is something more clearly committed - angry, aggressive, menacing, and, startlingly, mournful. Deep Seat has a certain swampy, primordial appeal. The heavily distorted, teeth-gnashing wah guitar toward the end is worth the trip.
