Song: Riviera Paradise
Band: Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble
This sultry, jazz-tinged, blues-steeped instrumental presents the late Texan guitarist in his finest, most languidly supple form. Riviera Paradise closes out In Step, the fourth and final Double Trouble album, and it’s nine minutes of slow-burn bliss. The deep indigo mood is leavened by lightning runs courtesy Vaughn’s liquid, elastic finger work - powerful yet almost unbearably graceful stuff. Props also to keyboard player Reese Wynans - his spacious work on the organ helps set the lushly expansive tone; his mid-song piano solo is incandescent and emotionally sublime. The whole band is in superb sync here - what a fine song.
